中学英語で夏目漱石の『草枕』を翻訳1
夏目漱石の『草枕』を勉強の教材に選びました。草枕をすいすいと英語に置き換える英語力はありません。翻訳勉強は原文の熟読からです。漱石をじっくり読めます。文豪の文章を幼稚な英語で翻訳するのは気が引けます。英語の辞書だけでなく、国語の辞書も行ったり来たりです。続けられるでしょうか不安になっています。
原文の冒頭
山路を登りながら、こう考えた。
智に働けば角かどが立つ。情に棹させば流される。意地を通とおせば窮屈だ。兎角に人の世は住みにくい。
住みにくさが高じると、安い所へ引き越したくなる。どこへ越しても住みにくいと悟った時、詩が生れて、画が出来る。人の世を作ったものは神でもなければ鬼でもない。やはり向う三軒両隣にちらちらする唯の人である。唯の人が作った人の世が住みにくいからとて、越す国はあるまい。あれば人でなしの国へ行くばかりだ。人でなしの国は人の世よりも猶住みにくかろう。
私の翻訳勉強

Even if you think that the world of ordinary people is difficult to live, you cannot find a better place. You can choose only the world of worthless person. It must be much worse than the human world.
